Avoca Tidy Towns are delighted to have maintained our 2nd place for the Main Street status in the County Wicklow Tidy Towns, Estates & Environmental Awards.

This is a fantastic achievement as the Avoca Main Street area has no litter bins, and we encourage people to take their cans, bottles, papers etc home to recycle. A large percentage of litter from litter bins ie plastic bottles, cans & clean paper are all recyclable yet end up in landfill if popped in a litter bin.#takeithometorecycle.

Our local shops & chip shop encourage the people using the park to drop their bags etc back in the bins in store. See for details of how you save when you recycle. We would like to thank the many volunteers behind Avoca Tidy Towns, those who behind the scenes pick litter on the approach roads on a weekly basis & drop it off, those that ensure the street park & church car park are litter free & tidy, those that ensured everything was up to date & kept in order over the restrictions.

We also thank Mary Bolger & Angela Hendley who run our weekly fundraising lotto. This money is used to ensure the Park & Courthouse are maintained & insured, petrol & materials available for our CE workers. This has been our main source of funding during the Covid Restrictions. Our CE workers have ensure the grass, verges cut etc.

Over the next few weeks we will be having volunteer evenings for litter picks weeding & painting and we look forward to seeing many people join in. In the meantime if you would like to join in by organizing a litter pick or clean up of your own area or adopt a small area to keep litter free, neat & tidy, message us here & we can let you know where you can collect a Hi Viz jacket, litter picker, bags & gloves also where to drop your full bags so they are collected by the local authority. We will also be looking for volunteers to do some painting. Watch this space for more details.
