Whitney Bradford “Brad” Morse Obituary

Whitney Bradford “Brad” Morse, age 83, of Dennis, MA, passed away, peacefully, on March 27, 2022 surrounded by his family at his home.

Brad was born in Fall River to Laura Washburn and Channing Morse on October 22,1938. He attended Wareham High School and graduated in 1956. He later completed college classes in Fire Science and Computer Programming.

Brad was drafted into the Army in 1958 and was in active service into 1960, then an additional 6 years in the Army National Guard. He worked as a Wareham Police Officer for 3 years and then joined the Wareham Fire Department. He met the love of his life and married Elizabeth “Betty” who would remain by his side for nearly 52 years until his death. Brad took the position of Deputy Chief for the Dennis Fire Department and he and Betty moved to Dennis, where they would remain. Brad’s career in the fire service implemented radio communication between fire stations as well as the police department, designed fire apparatus to service the unique needs of the town, increased employed firefighters, designed the first computer system to track and document service calls and created the EMS system making Dennis the first cape town to have emergency medical services. He retired in 2000 after 28 years of service. As a retirement job, he worked at a local funeral home.

Brad had been a proud and active member of the Freemasons for sixty years, including memberships at Mt. Horeb Lodge and Nauset Light Lodge where he served as Worshipful Master as well as several other officer positions including being appointed as the District Deputy Grand Master of the 21st Masonic District. He was instrumental in starting Nauset Light Lodge and earned many accolades for his service including the Joseph Warren Medal which is a merit award for his actions on behalf of Freemasonry and history of community service. In the summer months, Brad could often be found in Chatham making lobster rolls and clam chowder for sale to the public to collect charitable funds for the lodge.

Brad is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his children, Kimberly and Christopher; son-in-law, Michael; grandchildren, Hannah and Daniel; his brother-in-law, Robert and his wife, Nancy; his sister, Marianna and her husband, Winn; and brothers, Wayne and his wife, Elizabeth and Jonathan and his wife, Marianne; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Channing and his wife, Nancy.

A Memorial Service under the direction of Chapman Funerals & Cremations, Harwich, will be held at Mount Horeb Masonic Lodge located at 242 Old Bass River Rd., South Dennis, on Saturday, April 9,2022 at 2 PM. Interment will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Sunday April 10, 2022 at 11 AM.
